Summer Safaris is a travel adventure programs for teens. We offer action-packed itineraries and travel to fantastic locations. Our programs are all about getting outside, going exploring, having fun, being active, and sharing the experience with a group of new friends. We travel in small groups and put an emphasis on acceptance and inclusion during the trip.
Being a smaller company enables us to provide a more personalized experience to participants and their families. Kelly Rogerson, the director, travels on all of the trips which allows her to personally know each and every one of the participants. At Summer Safaris, we are committed to providing high quality programs that will offer incredible experiences to our participants.
At Summer Safaris safety is job one! We recognize our enormous responsibility in caring for the participants, therefore, safety is the focal point of all our programs. Much time has been spent creating our extensive risk management plan to reduce risks associated with the trips. We provide a low participant to staff ratio to ensure proper supervision, use highly reputable outfitters for our contracted activities, have clear, well planned protocols in place for all activities, and our leaders work with the participants to instill a culture of prudence and good decision-making. We travel in small groups (maximum of 18 participants) and put an emphasis on positive group dynamics. It is so important to us that all participants feel included within the group and are comfortable to be themselves. We want all participants to have a positive experience and we do not tolerate any type of bullying or intimidating behaviour. On every trip there will be three or four leaders, depending on the number of participants but the leader to participant ratio never exceeds 1:5.
We know how important fantastic leaders are in making trips successful. This is why we are committed to hiring leaders that are not only experienced, friendly and responsible; but also, have a love for travel and know how to have a good time. All leaders are first-aid and CPR certified and on every trip at least two of the leaders will be certified lifeguards and at least one will be certified in Wilderness First Aid. All leaders take part in pre-trip training and undergo criminal record checks.
Summer Safaris cares about the environment and is committed to reducing the impact our trips have on the climate. All of our trips are carbon neutral, meaning that we purchase carbon credits to offest our carbon footprint (carbon emissions). In addition to being carbon neutral, we operate under the 'leave no trace' principles, compost the majority of our food, and recylce while on tour.
Summer Safaris was formed because of my love for travel, adventure, and the summer camp experience. Having been involved in this industry throughout the past 16 years, I have had the opportunity to work with a number of different camps and youth programs in both Canada and the United States as well as abroad in Australia and the UK.
My goal in developing these programs is to create a positive environment where safety, fun, friends, adventure, and belonging are what really count. It is extremely important to me that all participants feel included and accepted within the group and are comfortable to be themselves.
I believe in the importance of travelling and the great life experiences it provides. It gets you out of your comfort zone and builds resiliency, independence, and confidence. It allows you to experience amazing new places and people, it challenges you, it increases your knowledge of the world and it’s fun!
