ABOUT US

At Summer Safaris our focus is to provide small, coed group adventures for teenagers. We have created programs that allow teenagers to come together and experience an unforgettable trip.

Our programs are designed to provide participants an incredible new experience. It offers them the opportunity to have a break from their everyday life and take part in a unique adventure. Our approach in creating the trips is simple: to have a foundation that is based upon summer camp principles, to offer a wide variety of activities that are fun, adventurous and educational and to travel to areas that will excite participants.

Safety
At Summer Safaris safety is job one!  We recognize our enormous responsibility in caring for the participants, therefore, safety is the focal point of all our programs.  As with any activity there will always be inherent risks. We, however, have taken many steps to reduce such risks.  To learn more about the safety of our program, please get in touch with us.

Group Setting
We travel in small groups and put a huge emphasis on positive group dynamics. It is so important to us that all participants feel included and valued within the group – we do not tolerate any type of bullying or intimidating behaviour. There will always be four leaders and a maximum of 16 participants. We keep groups small to help ensure that everyone really gets to know one another and to feel comfortable in their surroundings. Participants will also be with other teenagers close to their age; there will seldom be more than a one year age difference.

Leaders
We know how important fantastic leaders are in making trips successful. This is why we are committed to hiring leaders that are not only experienced, mature and responsible; but also, have a love for travel and know how to have a good time. On every trip there will be four leaders (two male and two female) who are all first-aid and CPR certified. Of the four, at least two will be certified lifeguards and at least one will be certified in Advanced Wilderness First Aid/ Wilderness First Responder.

Kelly Rogerson - Founder / Director

Summer Safaris was formed because of my love for travel, adventure, and the summer camp experience and my enjoyment in working with teens.  Having been involved in this industry throughout the past 15 years, I have had the opportunity to work with a number of different camps and youth programs.  In the United States, I have worked at large overnight camps on both the east coast and west coast as a leader, water ski instructor, lifeguard and swim instructor.  In Canada, I was a leader at a daycamp and spent three winters teaching snow skiing to youths at Whistler Ski Resort.  I have also worked with teens in both Australia and the UK.  Having had the opportunity to be involved in a variety of youth programs, I have been able to experience a wide range of programming styles.  This has been very beneficial in creating my trips as it has allowed me to draw upon many different experiences and setups.

My goal in developing these programs is to create a positive environment where safety, fun, friends, adventure, and belonging are what really counts.  It is extremely important to me that all participants feel included and valued within the group.

I believe in the importance of travelling and the great life experiences it provides.  It gets you out of your comfort zone and builds resiliency, independence and confidence.  It challenges you, it allows you to experience amazing new places and people, it increases your knowledge of the world and it's fun!  My love for travelling has taken me to Australia where I lived for over a year and have since returned many times.  I have spent two years living in London, UK which gave me the opportunity to travel throughout Europe.  I have also spent time exploring Canada and the United States.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with me.

Hope to see you this summer!
